Located in southern Ontario on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario, Toronto is the largest city in Canada. It is one of Canada's main centres for tourism, commerce and the media industry. It is home to numerous museums, including the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Bata Shoe Museum, the Textile Museum of Canada and the Canadian Opera Company. It is also the home of Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Electronic Ensemble and the National Ballet of Canada. Toronto's land is mostly flat with a few gently sloping hills. Toronto's ravines are cut by a number of rivers and creeks. The ravines are connected to the city by bridges. Several parks are laid along the ravines and valleys. The Toronto Carrying-Place Trail is a portage route. There is also a trail along the Humber River and Etobicoke Creek that is used as a skate trail.

Toronto is home to several public hospitals, including The Hospital for Sick Children and Mount Sinai Hospital. The Toronto General Hospital is a major teaching hospital located in the downtown core. The hospital also provides medical services to the surrounding area. Toronto is also home to twenty public hospitals, including the Toronto Western Hospital and the North York General Hospital.

The city is known for its extensive multi-use trail system. There are many recreational trails that run along the ravines and valleys. There are also public skating rinks at Nathan Phillips Square and Mel Lastman Square. There is also an outdoor ski slope at Centennial Park.

Toronto is also a major producer of domestic film. The city is home to several theatres, including the Princess of Wales Theatre, the Royal Alexandra Theatre, the Four Seasons Centre for Performing Arts and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. There are also many art galleries in the city, including the Toronto Sculpture Garden, the CBC Museum and the Art Gallery of Ontario. The Gardiner Museum of ceramic art is the only museum in Canada devoted entirely to ceramic art. The Art Gallery of Ontario is one of Canada's major art galleries and features a large collection of Canadian art.

The city is home to several major Canadian corporations, including Manulife, Celestica and Magna International. Toronto is also home to the Toronto Stock Exchange, the country's largest stock exchange.
